Overview
Ting Chinese ("we", "our", "us") provides Chinese podcast listening and transcription features. This policy explains what data the app handles and how it is used.
Data We Process
- Account & session data — device account ID or sign-in identity data required to authenticate with our backend.
- App usage data — playback state, listened status, subscriptions, and highlighted words.
- Content data — podcast metadata, audio URLs, and transcript content needed to deliver app features.
- Local app data — downloaded audio, cached transcripts, and app preferences stored on your device.
How We Use Data
- To authenticate users and secure access to backend APIs.
- To generate, fetch, and display transcripts.
- To sync listening state and highlighted words across sessions.
- To operate, monitor, and improve service reliability.
Data Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Data is shared only with infrastructure and service providers needed to run core app functionality (for example, hosting and transcription processing).
Data Retention
- Local caches and downloads remain on your device until removed.
- Server-side records are retained as needed to provide and maintain the service, then deleted according to operational requirements.
Your Choices
- You can clear local cached data in the app Settings page.
- You can sign out to remove local session access from the app.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect data in transit and at rest.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
